The House names as well as the Yard are inspired by the history of Fotheringhay Castle located nearby where Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner. The remains of the Castle reputedly were incorporated into the fabric facia of the Talbot Inn by William Whitwell who married a relative of the Earl of Shrewsbury. The houses are deceptively large and have a range of unique features that enhance their lifestyle potential.

Externally finished in cotswold-stone, oak cladding, oak doors and windows finished with brass hinges and hand forged ironmongery, bradstone-colyweston and terracotta tiles.

Internally finished in Farrow and Ball paints that reflect the light qualities of the position of each house, with feature architectural stone, oak and pine, including local craftsman turned stair spindles, local joinery-made fire-doors, doors and archways.

The ground floors are finished with Burgundian stone : the wing houses of Latimer, Devonshire, Aragon and Shrewsbury each have a sitting room with a craftsman built feature stone fireplace with patio doors to an enclosed stone / willow garden. The terraced house of Parr has a rear garden with double patio doors from the orangery / dining room and the houses of Tewdr and Griffin have double patio doors opening out into the front garden / patio.

The wing houses have a first floor master en-suite bedroom featuring a high ceiling and entered through an hall archway - Latimer and Aragon have an ensuite bathroom /shower and Devonshire has a dressing / bath / shower room. The terraced houses have a first floor master dressing / en-suite shower wet-room. All the houses have a single bedroom with built-in cupboards and the staircases rise to the second floor with a unique section of staircase to the second master bedroom with en-suite shower wet-room. Each second master bedroom has been wired to enable a media room as an alternative use.
